FT. CHANCE THE RAPPER
JOHN LEGEND
X
PENTHOUSE FLOOR
BY: AMOS LEBLANC

With the very first listen, this song feels like an instant classic. The baseline... Johns vocals... the contagious down-tempo percussion.

It’s my favorite song on the album...

The song exudes elegance, and calls for a classic tone in the video. I want to take the familiar elements of classic performance videos, and ambitiously re-think them. Using new camera techniques, and being intuitive in the way we capture performance and tell story.

NEW MOVES

I want to use a lot of movement in the video. A frequent sense of motion that compliments John’s performance and echoes through the vignettes. Playing with horizontal and vertical perspectives, approaching performance and story with ambitious and captivating photography. Through new cinematic tools we can push this video to become a new meaning of what a classic music video can be today.

For example, I imagine a lot of rotations and turning camera movements. Slow turns that are meticulously composed that complement the next cut in the edit, creating a sort of visual language that “turns” one shot into the next.

It is not that the camera will ALWAYS be moving but with every shot we will be cognizant of which shots they will cut with and their effect. I have a plethora of ideas for how to create new movements for this video and I would love to discuss these ideas with the team.
