My Life As Ali Thomas

"RINN"

00:00 / 03:28

For My Life As Ali Thomas "RINN" I want to create a deliciously visual and visceral symphony. Bring the excitement of and scale of the song into realization with the visuals. The grandeur and scale of nature, formidable and beautiful, juxtapose with the destructive nature of war and man-made elements.

How to match the massive feeling of this track practically has inspired me to think a little bit differently. We will shoot everything in the studio yet without any post-CG effects. Instead, I have come up with a technique that will have an aesthetic unique to this video.

We will project backgrounds of the vignettes behind the characters; a technique used frequently in older films like Pulp Fiction and Aliens, called "rear projection."

PRODUCTION DESIGN

I would like it to feel like Rin & the band are in these locations, with the use of fans on set emulating wind or a motorcycle emulating riding on the open road. The set design would consist of simple pieces that would be in those environments.

I want to embrace the aesthetic of the projections and allow the audience to know we aren't really at these locations because I think it will look beautiful and unique. A bit of a retro vibe but with a modern yet modest approach to visual effects.

Example of onset props and design:

  • Wardrobe - appropriate to each environment

  • Props ( minimal) - Microphone, quitars, drums etc.

  • A treadmill or turntable for moving shots.

END

It would be a great opportunity to work on the film for this song. I look forward to collaborating with Sebastian as this album is one of my most highly anticipated albums of this decade. I am open to ideas from management for vignettes you may want to contribute and I look forward to developing this concept in more depth and making it a reality.

Thank you,
